About our Travel Story:
In September 2010, we were in a major head on collision that could have taken our lives. After a surgery and some major eye opening moments, we decided life is too short to NOT live out our dreams…it’s so cliché, but it’s true. By December we were selling off nearly all our stuff: house, three cars, the green velvet couch Shawna secretly loved, hundreds of DVDS, big screen television, two closets full of clothes…and anything else you think you need to be happy. Not to mention, Shawna quit her jobs at the Animal Shelter & Meals on Wheels, Chais kept his online business and we made arrangements for our pets to temporarily live in loving homes.
We headed out May 21st, 2011 with our backpacks, one way plane tickets and each other. This is the phase of our lives that we call “Breaking away from the American Stereotypical Norms.” We’re making our own way, with our new found ideals of what makes us happy in this world. We are challenging ourselves to live internationally, work how we want, to eat scary foods, to sleep in hostels, and to experience things that most American citizens fear aka. The World.
About Us:
We’ve been together since we were 16 years old (high school sweet-hearts) and we still love each other! We got married when we were twenty, and have been perfecting our idea of marriage for 9 years. During this time, we can say that our lives are constantly changing for the better. We don’t have kids, but it’s in the works.
About Shawna:
Drinking a yummy coffee/coconut milk/cinnamon drink at my favorite restaurant in Chiang Mai: Beetroot Stories!
I do most of the writing on the blog, and Chais does the geeky back-end work. I have always loved words…mostly reading and writing. My summers as a child were spent visiting my dad in Texas, enrolling myself in the library’s book club and locking myself in my bedroom with a good read…unless I had to feed the horses, herd cattle or follow in the footsteps of my big sister. I’m an animal lover, arachnophob, potato chip lovin’, beer drinking, clean freak! I’m a firm believer in manifesting positive thoughts, conquering fears and dreaming big.
About Chais:
Hey there, I’m Chais!
I normally like to write and share the ‘how to‘ and ‘tips & tricks‘ type posts, but I do occasionally share a good story as well (biased opinion). Oh ya, I also do some of the geeky stuff to the website, behind the scenes…if something is ever broken when you drop by, it’s my fault!
I enjoy testing & challenging everything, People, situations, ideas and myself. Because of that, I believe in consistent growth…to be the best version of us that’s possible. I’m a creative, passionate, beer drinking, ‘when in Rome’ believin’, idea creator that’s convinced there is no single right way to live life, there are many!
About Our Blog:
We frequent Facebook and Twitter. Often we make amateur travel videos and put them on Youtube. We mostly capture candid moments with a shaky hands…like the time Shawna got attacked by a swarm of monkeys. We’re now slightly obsessed with Pinterest… pinning photos we’ve taken, repining other’s, or getting inspired!
Feel free to follow along with our adventure by reading this blog; We’ll give you updates, tips/tricks, and the details of what traveling/living internationally is all about…at least for the Meyer’s
About Our Current Location:
We’re stationed in Chiang Mai, Thailand where we’ve enrolled in language school. We’re eager to start chatting in Thai with the locals! We LOVE it here. Don’t hesitate to come visit us, we’ll be here for a year!
